Water is the main factor of our existence, the cornerstone of our chemistry. Water is an indispensable element of our lives as it covers approximately 80% of our body, and it is one of the basic elements that we encounter and need in every sense in order to continue our lives in our daily life. The pH level of water is an issue that concerns all of us, including individual use or commercial use, which has a direct effect on the desired result with the use of water.

One of the most important basic information of water chemistry is the pH level of water. The pH level of the water is a number that reveals the ACIDIC (under pH 7.0) or BASIC (Alkaline term is also used, above pH 7.0) character which is the opposite of acid. The pH level of water is especially evident in the fields of health and economy. In our article, we will do research on some basic areas where water is used very often and the pH values that should be in these areas.
What should be the pH level of drinking water?
When we investigate the ph degree of drinking water, it is seen that there is a sound from every head and a confusion occurs on this issue. While some sources argue that the water we drink should be alkaline, that is, the pH level should be 7.5-8.5, some sources argue the opposite and claim that drinking water should be slightly acidic, that is, the pH level should be 6.5-7.0. According to the regulation on water intended for human consumption, which is valid today, the pH values of drinking water can be between 6.5 and 9.2. The officially declared value is in this range.
Swimming pools; The pH levels of Swimming Pools are provided in various ways. In swimming pools, the “pH” degree of the pool water is kept between 7.2 and 7.5 so that the human eyes are not disturbed and the chlorine compounds given to the water for disinfection purposes work correctly. At higher “pH” degrees, water burns the eyes and the chemicals used for water disinfection do not function properly. At low “pH” degrees, the eyes still burn and some of the pool construction materials dissolve with acidic water (like ceramic joints). We can say that the damage that may occur in swimming pools as a result of not adjusting the pH values of the water properly and the damage to be suffered is a very important example for us to observe the effect of the pH level of the water on the usage areas.
The pH level of the water entering the food; Water is one of the main elements that determine the taste of the food it enters. The pH level of the water that will enter the product in dairy products such as Tukish ayran, soft drinks and beer sector affects the formula and flavor of the product produced, therefore the pH level of the process water is very important. In other words, the pH level of the water used in foods differs for each food. If we make a generalization on this subject, we can say that the pH value of the water used in soft drinks and food is acidic.
Other Uses: The usage area of water is quite wide. Another of these is the textile sector. In the textile industry, water is used in dyehouses to create formulas and delicate colors. The pH level of the water used in the dyehouse is very important. While low pH is very suitable in some processes, water with high pH value is required in the formation process of some paints.
