A project waiting to be implemented...
Three important groups of New York designers, Jeff Franklin, Archie Coates and Dong-Ping Wong, united to bring an idea to life. This idea is a floating pool called +POOL. +POOL is the idea of a pool where river water will be filtered and cleaned, while it will be a public facility for New Yorkers to cool off. The reason why this idea emerged is that in a city where everything you want is done, the only thing you cannot do is not swim in clean water in this city surrounded by water.
Starting from this point, these three designers come up with the basic idea of the project in order to move forward on the project. According to this idea, it would be best to start by cleaning a small part of the river rather than cleaning the entire river. Thus, the city people's perspective would
change and they would gradually achieve their goals.
The pool was created with the combination of 4 types of pools to cover everyone and every purpose. As a children's pool, sports pool, swimming pool and recreation pool.
Thanks to its special walls, a system has been developed that filters the surrounding river water through concentric water-cleaning material layers and enables the use of the pool without consuming any electricity.
With this system, clean and safe pool water will be obtained by removing bacteria, pollutants and odors. Moreover, no chemicals will be added to the water.
In the first stage, elements such as marine organisms, large pieces, oil, sediments and suspended particles are removed.
In the second stage, suspended solid particles, organic substances, algae and bacteria in the water are eliminated.
The third stage is a filtration stage in which the water is again purified from bacteria and viruses. Then, the cleaned water is transferred to the pool.
This idea, which was put forward in 2011, has proven itself over time and is planned to be built in 2024 with government support. The New York City government allocated a budget of $4 million for the project, and the state of New York allocated a budget of $12 million for the development and scaling of the project...
The total area of the pool, which will be used as a test pool in the first stage, is 185 m² and will expand to 830 m² in the following stages. The amount of water cleaned by passing through the walls of the pool will reach 3.7 million liters per day, and thanks to the filter system, the water quality will always be suitable for swimming.
The most important feature of the +Pool pool is that it can float on the river. It is not located on any land. It can be transported by movement on a river.. Thus, it is possible to both clean the river and move the recreation area to certain areas. Several riverside parks could be adapted to the floating dock. These are East River State Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Riverside State Park, Battery Park City, Chelsea Piers, Governor's Island.
+Pool pool will also offer New Yorkers a wonderful view of Manhattan.
